Windows 10 April Update Drops Today

Previously known as the Spring Creators Update, Windows 10 update for April is now available. The update is focused on time and task management.

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Microsoft Windows and Devices group, said, “We want to give you back some of your greatest currency, your time. Our hope is that you’ll have more time to do what matters most to you – create, play, work or simply do what you love.”

Similar to the previous Fall Creators Update, it is packed with small features that improve the overall use of Windows 10.

The only major feature for the April update is the new Timeline feature. It replaces the Task View button. Timeline lets the user resume whatever application he left off across multiple Windows 10 machines.  Also, this will show all apps and activities the user used in the last 30 days in multiple devices, with the help of sync.

Furthermore, Updates can now be controlled using ‘Delivery Optimization’. This idea lets the user download updates to one PC, then have other PCs on the user’s network grab the updates over the LAN. Microsoft said, “This significantly reduces bandwidth (by as much as 90 percent) and that results in much better experience for everyone on the network.”

The Windows 10 April update was scheduled to be released a couple of weeks ago. However, a bug has been found at the last minute. Testers had to fix the bug before it was released beyond the early adopter “Windows Insider” community.

Other Updates

Other features include Focus Assist, Dictation option, Edge improvements, tab muting, and games & app fixes.

Focus Assist is a level-up version of Do Not Disturb. It blocks notifications and other distractions until the user wants. In the end, it will provide a summary of notifications you muted. It has the option to whitelist certain people so you will receive their emails and messages while the Focus Assist is on.

Meanwhile, pressing Windows Key + H in any text box will enable dictation. Start talking and windows will type it for you.

On the other hand, Microsoft Edge now has the option to mute audio from specific tabs. Some new grammar tools will break down complex words into syllables, and highlight nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

The monitor will scale according to the user’s action to the monitor. Scaling desktop apps has been a major issue of Windows, and this feature will get rid of the problem.
